For the first time in school history, the Prosper girls’ soccer program has recorded a perfect undefeated season.

The team boasts a 22-0-1 record, with the one tie coming from a penalty shoot-out against Carrollton Creekview in which Prosper took the 5-4 win.

Even more impressive, the girls have combined for a total of 110 goals, and given up just six goals against all year. The team is threatening from all across the field, both offensively and defensively sound.

Players such as seniors Gabby Gamboa, Katie Lapomarda and Mo Ordonez, junior Kat Rogers, and sophomores Hailey Davidson and Diana Ordonez have led the offensive attack, while a solid back line including freshman Lauren Lapomarda, seniors Adeline and Amelia Webb, and junior Maycie McDougal have kept the opposition at bay. Both goalkeepers, senior Haley Birmingham and junior Peyton York, have worked hard to prevent the other teams from scoring, combining for 18 shutouts over the season.

Prosper’s first playoff game will take place at 7 p.m. Friday at McKinney Boyd High School. The Lady Eagles will be playing Frisco Heritage, who is coming off of a shoot-out win against Independence March 17. Heritage holds a 10-5-3 overall record and finished fourth in District 13-5A.

Head coach Rafael Flores said that he knows it will be a big game for his team.

“Everyone coming out of the Frisco district is a tough matchup,” he said. “The district was very tough with only a handful of points separating every team in the district so (Heritage) will definitely be a battle tested.”

Flores said the girls are taking every opportunity to prepare for the match, and they are excited for the first playoff game of the year.

“I am confident in my team, but we need to be ready to play our best.”
