Prosper boys and girls wrestling coach Darren Snyder was one of four nominees to be inducted into the Texas Wrestling Hall of Honor during the state tournament Houston in February.

“It was an honor to be able to represent Prosper at the ceremony,” Snyder said.

Three coaches and one referee were inducted this year. Snyder has been with Prosper for six years and received his nomination based on the work he’s done to improve the program.

“If Prosper wrestling didn’t become successful and places I’ve been before didn’t become successful, it wouldn’t have happened,” Snyder said. “A lot of people were involved. A lot of families and their support allowed the kids to be successful.”

Snyder has been a wrestling coach and math teacher since 1995. He spent 11 years at Lewisville Independent School District and five years at Frisco ISD before coming to Prosper in 2011. Since then, the school added a girls wrestling program, a junior high program and a youth club, all of which have been successful under his tenure.

This year, the Prosper wrestling teams had a girl finish in the Top 3 at state and two boys finish in the Top 5. Each team experienced this success despite having only one senior in the program.

“You could tell early on that it was definitely going to be a rebuilding year,” Snyder said. “It turned out that the guys and girls over-exceeded expectations.”
