The career win streak was up to 800 games for Prosper baseball head coach Rick Carpenter after the Eagles defeated Coppell Saturday afternoon.
“When we won that game, it never even came into my mind that it was number 800,” Carpenter said. “I was so excited because of the victory, the way that we won it.”
The game-winning run crossed the plate in the bottom of the seventh. Prosper also beat Flower Mound in the second game of its Saturday doubleheader, bringing Carpenter’s win total to 801.
“I’ve accomplished everything that I had as a goal as a coach,” Carpenter said. “I’ve been that blessed in my career. I just want to do a good job every day, do right by the kids. I’d like to win another state championship. That’s the goal every year, but sometimes you fall short.”
This is Carpenter’s 10th season of coaching at Prosper High School. He said he’s been aware of the win total but didn’t expect it to rise to 800.
“My goal when I started coaching was 500,” Carpenter said. “I never dreamed this would occur.”
