The Prosper girls’ soccer team suited up for Tuesday’s match against the McKinney North Lady Bulldogs, same as always. They warmed up, discussed the team’s game plan, and prepared to take the field. For nine of the girls, however, it would be their last time to play on their home field, wearing their white jerseys with the Prosper crest emblazoned on the front. It would be their final opportunity to play in front of their home fans with a team that they say has become family. Raphael Flores’s 25-woman roster boasts nine seniors, all of which will be graduating at the end of the school year. This year’s seniors are especially important to Flores.

“It’s a good group,” he said. “Eight of them I’ve had since seventh grade. … I’ve seen them grow up. … They’re top-notch kids.”

Each of the following girls aspire to attend college post-graduation, and some will be continuing their soccer careers.

Haley Birmingham is a four-year letter winner for the varsity squad. She is the starting goalkeeper for the Lady Eagles. Upon graduation Birmingham will be playing soccer at Texas Christian University.

Mackenzie Hamilton has been an attacking player for Flores for three years. She plans on attending the University of Alabama to double major in broadcast communication and statistics.

Amelia Webb is also a three-year letter winner. She plays outside back, opposite of her twin sister, Adaline. Following graduation she will be attending the University of Texas at Austin to study mathematics in the College of Natural Sciences.

Katie Lapomarda will be attending the University of San Diego following her three years on the varsity squad. As a zippy attacking midfielder, she will continue to play soccer while majoring in business.

Mo Ordonez will leave Prosper High School after three years of varsity soccer. The outside forward will be attending Baylor University in the fall.

Outside midfielder Alyssa Thompson has been a member of the varsity for two years. She plans on attending either the University of Texas or Texas A&M University to major in biological sciences.

Gabi Rowland has played defense for Prosper High for two years. After graduation, Rowland will attend Oklahoma State University to study nutrition and become a diabetic educator.

Adeline Webb is another defender that will be leaving the Lady Eagles. She will be heading east to Louisiana State University Honors College to major in nursing with a psychology minor.

Gabby Gamboa rounds out the seniors. The forward has been impressive this season, and will continue playing at Northwestern State University while attending nursing school.

Flores says the nine seniors will be missed, but he looks forward to finishing the regular season. Gabby Gamboa said that she is sad to leave the Lady Eagles behind, but is excited for what is to come.

“These people are my family, so it’s going to be hard to leave them behind,” she said. “But I’m excited to start the future.”

With just a few games remaining, the Lady Eagles remain undefeated and have a promising look in the post season.
