Success continues to follow the Lady Eagle girls’ soccer team. They have remained unbeaten through the entire season, with their most recent win being against Lake Dallas on Tuesday. Prosper delivered a brutal Valentine’s Day beating to the Lady Falcons, extending their season-long winning streak to 16-0.
Prosper 6, Lake Dallas 2
The conditions were less than ideal for a soccer game, as high winds were swirling and the slight drizzle of rain hung in the air. It seemed that the weather hindered Prosper’s usual explosive start, making for a difficult transition into their normal high-intensity play. Coach Rafael Flores was not pleased with the start.
“We came out pretty flat and we just weren’t moving the ball like we usually do,” Flores said. “We couldn’t quite connect passes on a consistent basis.”
Although it did take a while for the girls to find their groove, about 25 minutes into the game Prosper broke the deadlock with two back-to-back goals scored by sophomores Diana Ordonez and Hailey Davidson. Both girls delivered brilliant through-balls and calmly beat the goalkeeper in the 1v1 challenges. The 2-0 lead held into the second half, and Flores was relieved to have time to regroup with the girls during halftime.
“We spoke about our focus and game preparation,” Flores said. “We knew we needed a much better second half.”
And what a difference the talk made. The Lady Eagles responded early with three more goals within the first 10 minutes of the second. Flores made some changes shortly after the goals, but Lake Dallas was persistent in their attack, and found their first goal of the game off of a corner kick. They continued to press, with the advantage of the wind behind them. A defensive error by Prosper’s back line provided a Lake Dallas attacker with the opportunity to tap in their second goal of the night. Nonetheless, the Lady Eagles continued to lead the match, finding their sixth and final goal late in the half to take a commanding 6-2 victory over the Lady Falcons.
With the win, Prosper remains in control of first place at the end of the first half of district competition, holding an undefeated record of 7-0. They have allowed just three goals during the season, and have scored a total of 73 goals. Diana Ordonez and Hailey Davidson both netted a hat-trick in the game, and Ordonez continues to lead the district in stats.
