THE COLONY — The Prosper boys’ soccer team suffered their first loss of the season last week against RL Turner before bouncing back and defeating McKinney North on Feb. 3. As a result, the boys found themselves in a battle for standings as they hit the road and headed to the Colony for an important district match-up.
Prosper 0, The Colony 1
Coach Ryan Rogers and the Eagles took charge of the match from the opening whistle, controlling the possession, despite the Colony’s high-pressure defense on Feb. 7. Both teams battled for the lead throughout the entire first half, with Proper missing some key scoring opportunities. It seemed that the opposition would score first after they were awarded a corner kick toward the end of the half. The Colony player delivered a dangerous ball into the box, finding a free-runner who appeared to have headed it into the goal. However, the Prosper defense held solid and cleared the ball out of play.
As the game progressed into the second half, both teams continued to push for the lead. The game became a stagnant battlefield, and the Eagles were desperate to find their first goal. Unfortunately, it was the Cougars who would score. The Colony capitalized on a long throw-in, and when the Prosper defense was unable to clear the ball, an opposing attacker slipped a shot past goalkeeper Cash Varner. Although the Eagles had several chances to tie the game, they couldn’t find the equalizer, and fell to the Colony 1-0 for their second district loss.
Rogers said that the team planned to find a win on Friday against Carrollton Creekview.
“The loss was disappointing as we felt we controlled much of the game,” Rogers said. “We are confident in our abilities though, and I know that we can bounce back to get back on track.”

The boys went on to lose the match to Creekview on Feb. 10. The game ended in a 1-1 tie, with the goal scored by Chris Nayler-Gress, but fell to the Mustangs in an overtime shootout. Rogers did not return a request for comment on the match.
Prosper played at Lake Dallas Tuesday. More information can be found in next week’s edition of the Prosper Press.
