Senior Abby Gargus and junior Haley Killinger both grabbed another all-state award by the Texas Sports Writers Association after impressive volleyball seasons.

Killinger, who’s committed to Texas Tech, was named to the Class 5A first team; Houston Baptist signee Gargus picked up third team honors.

“It was an honor,” Gargus said. “My team, coaches, parents, and fans helped me throughout the entire season and to get that award felt very fulfilling and humbling. I’m really proud to be a part of that selection.”

Other awards Gargus picked up this season included District 14-5A MVP, as well as first team all state honors by both the Texas Girls Coaches Association and Texas Association of Volleyball Coaches.

Killinger, the 14-5A Offensive Player of the Year, also got awarded by not only the TSWA but as well as the TGCA and TAVC.

“It was an honor to receive TSWA first team all state. For the amount of talented volleyball players in Texas, it was exciting and humbling to be recognized as one of the best in 5A,” Killinger said.

Last season, Killinger was all state by the TSWA and TGCA as a sophomore. She was also district newcomer of the year.

“It is an amazing feeling, and I give thanks to all of my coaches, teammates, and family members who have helped me develop into the person and player I am today,” she said. “Every day I strive for more, and I hope that next year my hard work will get me to the same, if not bigger and better success.”
