The Prosper boys and girls wrestling team won by a meet score of 48-15 at home against Frisco Independence High School on Thursday, Dec. 15. The boys placed fourth out of 46 teams at the Titan Games.

Tommy Flaherty and James Wujek came away champs while Igor Costa, Tristan Baugher got third place and Alex Varela was fourth.

The girls team came out No. 13 of 46 teams at the Frisco Ladies Classic. Cristiana Williams and Alyssa Alvarez both medaled in sixth.

Prosper benefited from four decisions via forfeit and won five of the eight remaining matches. Luke Cordy, Tommy Flaherty and James Wujek all won by pin, while Caleb Parham and Rylan Bonds each won by decision. The Prosper girls team participated in one match and got the victory.

“They’re doing a lot of the things we’ve been working on, and that’s what you want to see,” coach Darren Snyder said. “You want to be able to watch them wrestle and see what they’re trying to do.”

Cordy’s match was the longest of the night at 5:36. Prosper held a big lead most of the night, but Frisco finished strong. Frisco’s Hudson Schwartz defeated Prosper’s Anthony Wood in 1:35, and Frisco’s Ryan McCoy followed with an 11-second pin down of Prosper’s Bryan Porter in the last match of the night.

It was the first home meet of the 2016-17 season for the Prosper girls and second for the Prosper boys.

“There’s something about this gym and this area, being the original gym and the support we get from the community,” Snyder said. “I feel like it’s pretty exciting when we have events here.”

The Prosper boys and girls teams will headed to Keller Timber Creek High School for the next match at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17. After that, they’ll each have a two-week break before the Prosper Round-Up tournament on Dec. 31.
