Chris Buescher has changed teams and will drive in NASCAR’s premier series next season for JTG Daugherty Racing.
Buescher, of Prosper, raced for Front Row Motorsports as a Cup rookie this season. It was part of a technical alliance with Roush Fenway Racing, which has developed Buescher. He will remain a Roush driver, under loan to JTG Daugherty.
Roush Fenway cut back to two teams for next season in hopes of that will right its struggling Cup operation. Roush Fenway is winless in the last 72 Cup races and did not place a driver in the Chase this season.
Roush leased the charter of its No. 16 car to JTG Daugherty. Greg Biffle, who has driven the No. 16 since 2004, left Roush after the season and is a free agent.
JTG Daugherty has fielded only one Cup car since coming into existence in 2009. Buescher will join AJ Allmendinger.
Buescher will also drive a Chevrolet for the first time. Roush Fenway is a Ford operation, and Buescher also was in a Ford while on loan to Front Row Motorsports this season. Buescher’s race number and team have not been determined.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity and look forward to competing for a spot in the Chase,” Buescher said.
With Front Row, Buescher won at Pocono Raceway to qualify for the Chase. He was eliminated in the first round.
