Three days following Prosper volleyball’s loss to Wakeland, the Prosper football team was also eliminated 20-9 by the Frisco school on Friday in a Class 5A Region II bi-district match.
For Wakeland, it was its first playoff win in program history. Prosper ends a district title season with a 7-4 record.
Wakeland scored first with 6:24 in the opening quarter, but Prosper blocked the extra point to make it a 6-0 game.
Senior Austin Lind scored on a 2-yard touchdown run with 4:23 in the second, but the kick was no good too for a 6-6 tie.
Senior Cooper Chandler found sophomore Phillip Smith on a 5-yard touchdown pass to give Wakeland a 13-6 halftime lead.
Sophomore Cade York was good from 33 yards to get the Eagles within 13-9 with 9:28 to play.
Frisco’s Nick Cryer’s 3-yard touchdown run with 4:35 left to give Wakeland an 11-point advantage.
Nearly identical, Wakeland had 280 yards total offense to Prosper’s 279. The Eagles held a 185-82 advantage in rushing.
Junior running back Kaleb Adams had six carries for 32 yards and six catches for 34 yards. Lind threw for 94 yards on 10 of 17 passing. Sophomore Wayne Anderson led with 85 yards rushing.
It was a strong season for the Prosper Eagles football team. Another playoff appearance was logged in the books and a district title captured in 14-5A, all under coach Brandon Schmidt, who was in his first year as head coach.
