The Lady Eagles have a perfect district record going into this week’s matches after two wins last week, including a upset over district rival Frisco Centennial, 3-1 (19, 25, 25-21, 25-16, 26-24).

On Tuesday, the Lady Eagles host the Lady Titans, who were ranked No. 7 in 4A coming into the match. Coach Erin McClanahan said the key to the big win was following a game plan.

"We had a specific plan put in place for that match specifically, and the girls executed it perfectly," she said.

The win will be a huge confidence boost for the Lady Eagles, McClanahan said. But the celebration will be short-lived.

"I told them to take that night and celebrate but by the next day, we had to be back at work," she said. "If we just beat Centennial once and lose to other district teams, then people will think that our win over Centennial was a fluke; we need to play consistently that high the rest of the district schedule."

The girls still have matches over other proven 4A teams, including Frisco. The win over Centennial was an amazing accomplishment for the Lady Eagles, but this is still a tough district race.

"I keep reiterating to the girls that one win means nothing if we don’t back it up with continued wins," McClanahan said. "It could be very easy for people to say that Centennial just had a bad match, if we proceeded to come out and lose after that huge win."

After the two wins last week, the Lady Eagles moved up to No. 4 in the area rankings by the Dallas Morning News. The top three teams are Bishop Lynch, Waxahachie and Lovejoy.

"We haven’t played [Bishop Lynch], but both Waxahachie and Lovejoy have beaten us, although none were sweeps. We’ve competed with every team that we have lost to," McClanahan said. "The TGCA [Texas Girls Coaching Association] does rankings in classes according only to record, so for teams in 4A that are playing bigger 5A schools and have more losses than others, (i.e. Us, Centennial, Frisco, Lovejoy, etc), we are ranked low. Last week, the top team in 4A was Mission Memorial, a Valley team."

The Lady Eagles also beat Frisco Liberty in straight sets on Friday, 25-18, 25-14, 25-19.

This week, the Lady Eagles travel to Frisco on Friday and at The Colony next Tuesday.
