Last Tuesday the Lady Eagles traveled to The Colony to open playoffs against Frisco High. The Lady Eagles finished second in District 17-4A while Frisco High placed third in their respective district. This was the first-ever meeting between Frisco High and the Prosper Lady Eagles.

Prosper was in search to earn its first-ever playoff win in the program’s history. The Lady Eagles would have their hands full competing against a tough Frisco High squad who qualified for the postseason competing in the difficult Frisco soccer district.

Both teams would come out of the gates nervous with neither team keeping much of the possession. Both teams would struggle to find their rhythm early in the half. Only a few minutes in and Prosper would face their first obstacle as their starting center midfielder would hit the ground with an ACL tear.

The Lady Eagles would immediately have to make an adjustment on the field and quickly regroup. The Lady Eagles knew that they were a team for a reason and there was always someone eager and ready to step up in someone else’s absence. Prosper would show true grit as they battled Frisco, fighting for every chance they could get.

Prosper would create a few good chances in the first half with some long crosses, but they could not solve the Frisco High defense. Frisco too would give the Prosper defense fits with their speed all over the field. After a Prosper attack down the sideline, Frisco would counter down the opposite sideline and work the ball in behind the Prosper defense. A great shot to the lower corner would beat the Prosper keeper and give the lead to the Lady Raccoons. Prosper would fight to get to the half only down one as Frisco would continue to pepper the Lady Eagle keeper with shots. Prosper’s keeper would come up big on a handful of saves to let Prosper go into the half only down one and keep the game within striking distance.

At the half, Prosper would regroup and refocus knowing they had to put more pressure on the Frisco High defense. The Lady Eagles were once again at a fork in the road where they had to decide as a team which way they wanted to go.

All season long the Lady Eagles had played with a high intensity and a passion for not only the game, but for each other. It was only fitting that in their playoff game they would once again look adversity in the face. Prosper would start the second half not worried about what obstacles were in their way, but rather with a focused intensity on leaving the field proud of what they had accomplished.

The Lady Eagles opened the half running down every ball and matching the physical play of the Lady Raccoons. Prosper would create a few more chances early, but could still not find a way to solve the Frisco defense.

On one of Prosper’s attacks, Frisco would yet again counter attack down the sideline and score a critical second goal. Yet again the Lady Eagles would face a decision. Prosper knew things looked bleak and could finish the half going through the motions, or hey could band together and give Frisco everything they had left in their tank. The Lady Eagles would choose option two.

With a little over 20 minutes left in their season, Prosper would never say die. The Lady Eagles continued to scrap and claw for every 50/50 ball. Eventually, Prosper’s attack would be rewarded with a corner and another opportunity to figure out the Frisco defense.

A ball played in to the back side found the head of a Lady Eagle and just like that the deficit was cut in half. Prosper showed the perseverance they had shown all season and the proof was in a hard earned goal. For the next 10 minutes Prosper would unleash an attack on the Frisco High defense as the Lady Raccoon team tried to regain its bearings. Prosper would change formations as the half was winding down to try and pop one in and force overtime. The Lady Eagles battled with everything they had and the Prosper keeper continued to make save after save as the offense tried to find the equalizer.

Late in the half, Frisco would once again counter attack and earn a corner kick. The Lady Raccoons would convert and take a commanding 3-1 lead. Prosper would fight until the final whistle, but would run out of time as Frisco High would take the game 3-1.
