From Staff Reports

The fourth annual Cory Ausenbaugh Memorial 5K and 1 mile Fun Run was held Saturday, Oct. 12 at Frontier Park in Prosper. Approximately 160 runners registered and came out for a fun morning that included the races, a bounce house provided by Red Engine Bouncers, face painters by A Twisted Crew, and DJ Robert Hanson. The rain held off for a great race morning.

The Cory Ausenbaugh Memorial Scholarship was started by members of the Prosper Fire Fighters Association after Cory Ausenbaugh, wife of Fire Marshal Bryan Ausenbaugh, tragically passed away from a sudden stroke. "The idea grew from a single scholarship for a graduating senior, to a non-profit charity organization dedicated to also raising scholarship funds for the children of firefighters, police officers and school employees of the Prosper community who pass away" said Firefighter David Yarbrough, president of the Foundation. The foundation raises funds through the 5k race, auctions and donations.

The sponsors of the race included Prosper Medical Plaza, Prosper Family Dentistry, Kurz Group Property Tax Services, Brown & Griffin Real Estate Advisors, Prosper Garage Door Repair, Dula Orthodontics, Family Focused Care, Prosper Chiropractic, 380 Outfitters and Matt Cox State Farm Agent. The Prosper Fire Department, Police Department and CERT team were out in force to help organize, run and make the event safe. Plans are already under way to make next year’s race larger and more exciting.
