Special to the Press

Prosper ISD will host its first Special Olympics Track and Field Invitational to be held at Eagle Stadium on the Reynolds Campus. The event will take place on Friday, May 10. Opening ceremonies will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the events are expected to conclude around 1 p.m. Prosper expects to host approximately 300 athletes from the surrounding ISDs at this inaugural event.

Athletes will compete in many different track events ranging from 10M assisted walks to 3,000M runs as well as wheelchair races. Field events include ball throw for distance, running long jump, high jump, shot put, and mini javelin. Prosper is very excited about bringing Special Olympics to their town and hopes the event will be fun and exciting for the athletes and the volunteers. There is going to be food and music and even some dancing.

To help make this event memorable, Prosper would like to provide t-shirts for all the athletes and volunteers. If you are interested in sponsoring the event or becoming a donor or volunteer, contact the Special Education Director, Dr. Heather Brister at 469-219-2035.
