From Staff Reports
Prosper High School senior Ashley Vu was recently named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist for the 2012-13 program.
Vu was one of about 16,000 students who made it to the semi-final level. These seniors will compete for about 8, 300 scholarships worth more than $32 million. The winners will be selected based on academic record, test scores, a written recommendation from an administrator and the student’s personal essay.
Vu scored in the top half of one percent in the country on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test during her junior year.
About 90 percent will become finalists; more than half of those will become Merit Scholars. Winners will be announced from April through July.
