The Cory Ausenbaugh Memorial Scholarship Foundation awarded Kristen McBride, Prosper High School Senior 2013, its annual scholarship on June 19. The memorial scholarship is presented to a graduating senior of the Prosper community who plans a career as an educator and who best exemplifies the qualities of the late Cory Ausenbaugh, an employee of the Prosper Independent School District. McBride plans to attend Texas A&M starting in August.

The Cory Ausenbaugh Memorial Scholarship was started by members of the Prosper Fire Fighters Association after Cory Ausenbaugh, wife of Fire Marshal Bryan Ausenbaugh, tragically passed away unexpectedly from a sudden stroke.

"The idea grew from a single scholarship for a graduating senior, to a non-profit charity organization dedicated to also raising scholarship funds for the children of firefighters, police officers and school employees of the Prosper community who pass away," said Firefighter David Yarbrough, president of the Foundation. The foundation plans to raise funds through the 5k race, auctions and donations. This year’s one mile fun run and 5k race are set for Oct. 12 at Frontier Park in Prosper.
