Eagles Season Ends Against Madison

The dream season for the Prosper Eagles basketball team came to an end Monday night against the state's 3A No. 1 Dallas James Madison High School. The Trojans beat the Eagles 89-51 at Richardson Berkner High School.

Prosper had a difficult night shooting the ball and couldn't get enough pressure on an athletic Madison team.

"After seeing film on Madison we felt like we could get to the basket and we did," said Coach Greg Nix after the game. "We missed a few easy one's in the second the let them build a lead. We felt like handling their pressure was the main thing and we were very spotty doing that tonight."

Even though the win was disappointing, Nix celebrated the year.

"It has been a great year," Nix said. "Thirty-three wins, 10-0 district championship, two tournament championships (Anna, Prosper) Now if we can do that six or seven out of the next 10 years maybe we can get to one of those lofty places where people talk about your program as being one of the best."

The loss ended the careers of five Eagle seniors. Jordan Stiles, Mark Matie, Dejuan Carter, John Reilly and Drew Miller (who has been injured most of the season) will all be gone next season.

"The seniors are always special they are your finish product," Nix said. "They are the ones who have gone through the entire process. This group has set the bar high for other classes that follow them. Mark Matie and Jordan Stiles have been with me for five years now all they way back to middle school, they can pretty much complete my sentences now."

Stiles led the Eagles with 16 points in the loss to Madison.

The team will have nine returning players next season. The junior varsity team also had a good season going 24-2 and winning district this season.

"We could be even more athletic next year but you just don't know until they do it. It will be hard to duplicate this years chemistry," Nix said. "We will lick our wounds for a couple of days and then get right to work on the 2010-11 version of the Prosper Eagles."
