A man was taken into custody early Saturday after a standoff with police and SWAT in East Austin, Austin police officials said.
Senior police officer Marcos Johnson said officers were called at 9:27 p.m. to an apartment complex in the 1100 block of Airport Boulevard after a woman called police to say she was being threatened by a man with a gun. When authorities arrived, the woman came out of the apartment, Johnson said, but the man barricaded himself inside.
A SWAT team was called to the complex, and after several hours of negotiations, at 12:40 a.m., the man exited the apartment and surrendered to police.
"He was taken into custody and at this time charges are currently pending," Johnson said.
The man was armed with a gun, but neither he nor the officers fired their weapons, Johnson said. The man, after he was arrested, was brought to the hospital to be evaluated, but it was not immediately clear if he was injured, officials said. Police did not say what he will be charged with. They also did not say if the woman was hurt.
"It is still a very active investigation at this point," Johnson said.
