The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library invites the children 4 – 11 years of age to sign up for our beginner’s art classes. Classes start July 23rd and run for 4 weeks and will meet twice a week. This year’s instructors include Artists Gerardo Saenz and Library Assistant, Christal de los Rios.

Gerardo Saenz was born and raised in McAllen, Texas. Mr. Saenz has been drawing since early childhood, and after graduating from High School, he enrolled at the Art Institute of Houston. At the Institute he began creating his unique style of painting. As a music lover, he selected this medium as his canvas; one music item that he could relate to from his 70s and 80s childhood was the cassette tape, his medium. From there he added acrylic paint creating design art where he lets the tape speak to the acrylic. Mr. Saenz has been featured on Harlingen's Beyond Arts & More Magazine and received 2nd place at IMAS’s Flavor of the Valley’s art contest. Mr. Saenz travels around Texas selling his unique and creative art. People recognize him as “The Cassette Guy.” Mr. Saenz will be teaching the art class for 7-11 years old.

Christal is a former program instructor who has taught a mix of education and arts & crafts-based classes for a non-profit organization. She will be instructing the class for children ages 4-6 years old. Christal has a love for art and wishes to pass that down to the children through this class.

Parents, if your child has shown an interest in the arts, take advantage of this creative class, where they will make new friends and discover the artist within them! This classes are recommended to all aspiring young artists and those who simply just want a creative outlet.

Classes will be held at 10:30 am to 12 noon on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning July 23rd. Classes are free of charge and supplies will be provided. However, space is limited so register early to ensure your spot.
