Three people were assaulted and two were hospitalized after a reported assault escalated to a stabbing on Saturday evening in Seagraves.

Just after 9 p.m., Seagraves Police and EMS were dispatched to a local community gathering for a reported assault involving a knife, according to the Seagraves PD Facebook page. Officers were in the area and were able to quickly locate and tend to the injured and obtain information from other involved parties. The Gaines County Sheriff's Office assisted Seagraves PD to help locate and interview subjects involved who fled the scene, according to the statement.

One person was taken to a Lubbock hospital by EMS with critical injuries, while another was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to a Lubbock hospital with severe injuries, according to police. Officials said a third person suffered minor injuries but declined treatment.

It was not immediately clear what caused the altercation, which remained under investigation Monday morning.
