The Littlefield Police Department was working what it called a joint investigation with federal investigators of the U.S. Postal Service that yielded an arrest this week and the confiscation of more than six pounds of marijuana.

The investigation began when a suspicious package was located while in transit through the postal system, according to a statement from Littlefield Police Chief Ross Hester.

A federal search warrant was sought and obtained. A search of the package in Littlefield was conducted and over six pounds of hydroponic marijuana with an estimated street value of $10,000 was discovered.

Rafael Deleon, 21, was arrested about 11:45 a.m. Thursday without incident when, police say, he went to the Littlefield post office to claim the package as police waited.

He was taken to the Lamb County jail, where he was booked and released on bond.
