Stephenville High School theatre students have been busy gearing up for its annual Sweets & Scenes comedy skit show that’s kicking off at 3 p.m. Sunday at Birdsong Amphitheater in City Park.

“Admission is free, but donations will be accepted,” said SHS theatre director Mindy Pope. “SHS theatre students will be presenting hilarious scenes including some original student pieces.”

Skits will include Flirting Academy, City of Stars from Lala Land, The Duck says Moo, Mafia and many more.

This will be SHS senior Leah Dowell’s fourth and final time to be a part of Sweets & Scenes.

“It’s one of the highlights of the year. We get to do something where we have gigantic characters and it’s fun and outgoing, and you get to do whatever you want to — as long as it’s family-friendly,” Dowell said. “You also get to direct a bit and that’s why I enjoy it. It brings together all the aspects.”

Dowell’s favorite part is being able to find and choose skits that speak to her and her fellow students.

“We get to share that with everybody and we usually have a really good turnout,” she said.

Attendees are welcome to bring chairs and blankets to enjoy the show.

“If it’s too windy or there’s bad weather, we will move this to the high school auditorium,” Pope said.
