Don’t shoot the messenger.
But Stephenville’s favorite place for chicken is temporarily closing while the restaurant undergoes a makeover.
Chicken Express will close at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, for an estimated six weeks while the inside and outside of the restaurant are renovated.
“When it’s finished it will be one of the nicest Chicken E’s out there,” said manager Gary Warren. “We were one of the very first to open in Texas. It’s been a good store and is still in pretty good shape, but this is something we wanted to do.”
The makeover will include a compete change to the dining room, with wood ceilings, new tabletops and tile.
The change will also expedite service.
Employees will still go outside to take orders, but they will transmit the order straight to the kitchen using a tablet.
“We are beta-testing the tablets now,” Warren said. “This will make things a lot faster and will speed up service.”
Chicken Express in Stephenville opened in 1993.
Warren said he is aware that people won’t like the fact that the popular fast-food restaurant will be out of order for six weeks, but he hopes customers will appreciate the finished product.
“Stephenville has been so good to us,” he said. “Our customers are like family and this is something we are doing for them.”
