A Prosper Independent School District student recently advanced to the national bee at the 60th annual Dallas Regional Spelling Bee.

The regional bee saw organizers run out of words for the first time anyone could remember. The final two students, Naysa Modi and Abhijay Kodali, were both named regional champions and will progress to the national bee.

Modi is a seventh-grader from Reynolds Middle School in Prosper. She finished seventh at the national competition last year and has participated in the national bee three times. This will be her fourth trip to the national competition.

The national spelling bee competition will take place the week of May 27 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
