BILLINGS, Mont. -- Lauren McCoy scored 22 points and hit a driving layup with 1.9 seconds left, giving No. 1 seed Westmont a dramatic 56-54 victory Monday night against No. 4 seed Wayland Baptist and ending the Flying Queens' NAIA Tournament charge in the Fab Four.

In a national semifinal that was close all the way, Wayland point guard Morgan Bennett tied the score 54-54 on a 3-point goal from the left wing with 24.6 seconds left.

After taking two timeouts, Westmont went to its career scoring leader, McCoy. The 6-foot-1 senior drove from near the free-throw line down the right side of the lane and banked in a layup high off the glass.

Wayland called timeout to advance the ball, and Maci Merket missed a rushed 3 near the top of the key as time ran out.

Deborah VanDijk led Wayland (27-7) with 12 points, followed by guards Kendrick Clark and Bennett with 10 apiece. The Flying Queens scored their second-lowest point total of the season, against a Westmont team whose average yield of 50.4 points per game ranks second in NAIA Division I.

Morgan Haskin added 18 points for the Warriors.

Westmont (26-6) faced Freed-Hardeman (33-4) for the national championship Tuesday night at Rimrock Auto Arena. Freed-Hardeman beat Montana Western 61-50 in the other semifinal.

The Flying Queens were in the NAIA Fab Four for the fourth time, but first in more than a quarter-century. Their last national championship was in 1975, the last of the program's 10 AAU titles.
