The Stephenville City Council is expected to decide Tuesday whether or not to continue giving the Chamber of Commerce 4 cents of its hotel tax.
Council members have been debating the issue for months, and have heard from Chamber President July Danley on why the money is needed.
But one council member who did not want to speak on the issue publicly before the vote said the city and Chamber have never had a contract regarding the hotel tax or agreement on how the money would be spent, although it is unofficially designated for tourism.
Mayor Kenny Weldon said Monday the council is working to develop a contract that will set guidelines and expectations on how the money is used. He said the council will vote Tuesday on whether to continue giving the money to the Chamber through March.
The 4-cent sales tax totals about $240,000 - $60,000 per cent.
The city council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Council Chambers at City Hall.
