The Cotton Gin Cafe, a local favorite eatery, has recently opened the doors next door to offer the first officially designated bar in the Town of Prosper. The bar, named The Gin, is officially open and serving up craft cocktails and live music every weekend. Manager Ricky Drais explained the influence behind the new business.

“The Cotton Gin has been a big part of Prosper for quite some time,” Drais said. “Our owners bought this and the neighboring storefronts about a year and a half ago with this master-plan in mind. They really wanted to expand the brand. We striving to be the first true bar in Prosper.”

The concept is rustic industrial, which is apparent by the decor and architecture of the space. The building is from the early 1900s and represents a traditional version of old town Prosper.

Live music is currently offered on Fridays and Saturdays with plans to expand into a Thursday through Sunday schedule. Drais said his goal is to keep most of the bands local and to offer country, classic rock and blues genres.

“With the town being so family centered, we are not trying to exclude that in any way,” Drais said. “This is definitely a family friendly area, which will be even more apparent once the patio is finished out. But there is obviously a large alcohol presence over here versus next door, and that should be taken into consideration.”

Drais has curated a craft cocktail menu, which will be unveiled this week, as well as an upscale wine menu and craft beer. They are dedicated to continuing to provide a small-town environment but with bigger city amenities.

“We’re a little rough around the edges right now, but within the next week or so it will all come together and be beautiful,” Drais said.

The week of Aug. 12, before everyone goes back to school, The Gin will be holding an end-of-summer bash. There will be live music as well as Triple G Barbecue catering.
