Collin County general election results are in with the announcement of the winners of Place 3 and 5 for the Prosper Town Council.

Candidates Jeff Hodges and Laura Thomas ran for Council Place 5, which was previously held by Mike Davis. In a relatively tight race, Hodges pulled ahead with the majority vote, with 355 of the votes in his favor, and 264 in favor of Thomas.

“I am very relieved and happy,” Hodges said. “It’s all kind of new to me. I wanted to be more involved and to keep Prosper in the same direction it was headed. I am very anxious to get up to date and up to speed on what’s going on. It’s all very new but once the comfort level hits it will seem more real.”

Although Thomas was disappointed, she said she values the learning experience and looks forward to future opportunities.

“These definitely weren’t the results that we wanted,” Thomas said. “But defeat is nothing to be ashamed of. Jeff is a great guy and he is going to do great things for Prosper, which makes it easier. This was a really great learning experience. I’m really glad that I put myself out there. I wouldn’t say no to running again, I would have to talk my husband. I just had a baby five weeks ago so we were already wondering if this was the best time. All in his (God’s) plan.”

Curry Vogelsang ran unopposed for re-election to Place 5. Although somewhat of a veteran to the process, he is still happy to see election day come to a close.

“I am really excited and humbled to be serving again,” Vogelsang said. “It’s a whole process that is crazy. I’m looking forward to working with Jeff and the rest of the council and to continue emphasizing our work on safety and development. And to provide excellence that Prosper demands and deserves. I really appreciate their support. There’s a lot of work to do and I’m excited to get to it.”
