The Bosque River Chapter of DRT will meeting Tuesday, May 9, at noon at City Café in Gustine.
After a brief business meeting and installation of new officers they will adjourn to the small cemetery on the land of Monte Tatum where they will dedicate a “Veteran of the Republic of Texas” medallion on the grave stone of James Farmer, a veteran of the Battle of San Jacinto.
The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m.
As far as is known he is the only veteran of that battle buried in Comanche County. Some of his descendants will be present to give his biography. The public is invited to attend the dedication.
Three new members will be welcomed to the chapter.
To become a member, a woman must be a direct descendant of a man or woman who honorably served the Republic of Texas. For more information go to www.drtinfo.org or call Judith D’Amico at 254-898-0535.
