Texas based grocery chain Market Street has taken the first steps in securing a Prosper location. The chain currently sits at 16 locations across Texas, not including the sister company locations such as Tom Thumb. The Village At Prosper, a major shopping center development, will be the site of the new location, which is currently only occupied by a CVS. Located at the northeast corner of Highway 380 and Coit Road, the center will lie just south of Lorene Rogers Middle School.

“I’m excited to have them,” Mayor Ray Smith. “This will be our second grocery store. They have a following just like the other grocer. There’s more than enough residents for both.”

The other grocer currently in Prosper is the Kroger Marketplace that opened in March of 2016. At this time, the property for the proposed Market Street has been purchased and the Town Council has approved zoning.

“They have zoning entitlements that would allow them to build there,” Senior Planner for the City of Prosper Alex Glushko said. “The zoning plan included an 80,000-square foot store, including a restaurant and fuel center. The Town Council approved zoning for Market Street in January of this year.”

There is currently no agreement in place for the city of Prosper to provide any incentives for Market Street to come to town, but the mayor said he believes negotiations are likely to occur in the future.

“We are committed to serving the Prosper market,” Warren Creason, real estate representative for Market Street, said. “When is still undecided at this time. There are a lot of projects that are going on in the metroplex, especially considering sister companies like Tom Thumb. The site has been purchased and now the developers are focused on site planning and due diligence. It is important for us to consider capital expenditure and demographic variables before making a decision on when to start construction. But it is definitely when, not if, Market Street will be coming to Prosper. The Prosper market is an ideal customer base for Market Street and we are looking forward to the ideal match.”

Market Street is known for their upscale grocery options including everything from freshly prepared foods to healthy products. With a focus on customer service, shopping at Market Street is an experience beyond mere monetary transaction. It is likely to be a while before the store opens its doors officially in the city of Prosper, but it is clear that the wheels are in motion and people are excited.
