PROSPER — Significant changes are ahead for Prosper residents who take advantage of the bulk trash pickup service provided at no additional charge by Waste Connections, the town’s trash and recycling contractor. The changes are set to begin on Monday, Feb. 6.
Most notably, the service moves from Saturdays to Mondays, and rather than bisecting the town into two pickup areas, the new configuration splits the town into four quadrants, moving from west to east. The town’s rectangular shape allows for the quadrants to cover all residences from the northern to the southern boundaries.
On the first Monday of the month, residents who live between FM 1385 and Teel Parkway will be serviced. Residents between Teel Parkway and Preston Road will be serviced on the second Monday of the month. On the third Monday of the month, those residents living between Preston Road to Coit road will be serviced. And, residents who live between Coit Road and Custer Road will have pickup service on the fourth Monday of the month.
Several procedures, however, remain unchanged. For example, residents who wish to have their bulk trash collected must still call (469) 452-8000 or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to be placed on the Waste Connections bulk trash pickup schedule. Calls and emails should arrive at Waste Connections by 4 p.m. on the Friday before the scheduled pickup Monday.
Second, all bulk trash must be curbside by 7 a.m. of the appropriate pickup day. Bulk trash placed curbside after 7 a.m. on pickup day is not guaranteed to be collected.
Third, bulk trash should not be placed curbside earlier than 24 hours before pickup. Placing trash curbside longer than 24 hours before pickup may be considered unsightly by neighbors and has the potential of attracting vermin.
And, fourth, bulk trash should be limited to the amount two men can load in five minutes. Eligible items include furniture, stoves, water heaters, and other appliances. However, refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioning units will only be collected if the unit is tagged by a certified technician stating that the Freon has been removed. These items without the certified tag are not accepted at the landfill.
Bulk trash items are also collected during the sixth Annual Spring Clean-up Event in or near the downtown area, scheduled for Saturday, March 18. The construction of the new Town Hall will necessitate a move from the usual location. More information will be shared once the location is secured.
