The monthly Prosper Independent School District board of trustees meeting on Nov. 14 updated members of the community on PISD enrollment information, district reports, the approval of a University Interscholastic League exempt course addition to schools and the issue of approval of a teaching permit for specific CTE courses at Prosper High School, along with budget fund updates throughout the district were discussed throughout the meeting.

The University Interscholastic League expands from academics through fine arts and activities through athletics, and the adoption of a UIL recommended course exemption proposal was considered at Prosper ISD’s board meeting. The courses under this provision would include: advanced placement classes, interscholastic baccalaureate students, honors students, pre-calculus classes and dual credit courses in subjects of English, mathematics, science, social studies, economics and foreign languages, and the update on whether this proposal will be enacted will be released by the school board members.

The board also approved a recommendation to allow the current nurse of Reynolds middle school, Kelli Factor, to complete a teaching permit to become a health science teacher at Prosper High School. Factor is currently completing all requirements under the 84th Texas Legislature, modifying the law to allow school districts to issue school district teaching permits without approval by the commissioner of education.

In addition, the board also received an update on the school board budget and financial district board report investment summary. The report showed general funds have increased to slightly more than $62,000,000, interest and sinking funds residing at $4,000,000, bond funds creeping above $43,000,000, new capital projects fund 2013 above $4,000,000, and all other funds above $600,000, resulting in a total fund budget of nearly $114,000,000.

The meeting concluded with important updates on future events. On Dec. 12, 2016, the next monthly school board meeting will occur, on Dec. 16, 2016, will be early release district wide for the last day of the first semester, and Jan. 3, 2016 will mark be beginning of the second semester for all students.
