The Prosper Chamber of Commerce gathered to honor local businesses at the fourth annual Awards Banquet on Tuesday at Piazza on the Green.
The Chamber focuses on helping new and existing businesses in and around Prosper thrive through member support and leadership. Incoming Chairman of the board Aaron McNeal said small businesses benefit immensely from Chamber membership.
“If (business owners) plan on doing business in Prosper and doing it well, they need to join the Chamber because it’s a great way to network with other businesses, to get their name out there and grow,” McNeal said.
Chairman of the board Perry Waller received the Appreciation Award and Board Member of the Year. Waller will retire from the board in two months after serving as chairman for five years. Waller said the growth of the Chamber reflects the growth of Prosper.
“We’ve grown from the eight years that I’ve been a member and the five years that I’ve been chairman of the board from 90 to 220 (members), and I expect to be at 500 within the next couple years,” Waller said.
Pat Lobb, owner of Toyota of McKinney said he joined the Chamber because of the growth of the Prosper marketplace.
“We saw more and more of our customers living in the Prosper market and we need to make sure we’re properly servicing them,” Lobb said.
The awards included Small Business of the Year, New Chamber Business of the Year and Outstanding Community/Civic Volunteer of the Year. The event raised $4,628 through the silent auction and featured actor and musician Dave Tanner who provided musical and comedic entertainment.
The Chamber meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship Church. Interested business owners can apply for membership through the Prosper Chamber of Commerce website. Annual dues range from $200 to $1,000.
