McKinney residents were invited to Spoons Cafe in McKinney for casual conversation over a cup of coffee on Wednesday, Oct. 12. McKinney Public Information Officer Ana Shelley said the department has been holding Coffee with Cops events for the past five years.
“The idea behind the event is to create a relaxed environment for our citizens to meet some of the officers that help keep their city safe,” she said. Most people have interactions with the police in an official capacity. This is a way for us to create interactions that are fun and personable.”
From 10 a.m to noon the public was invited to learn more about the members that make up their local law enforcement team. Shelley said the event, which is just one of several efforts over the past year to reach people in the city and build communicative relationships between officers and citizens, was a success.
“Along with our Coffee with Cops events, we have also had a Tacos with Cops event as well,” she said. “We hope to add more variety of events along the way so that everyone has an opportunity to hang out with us for a while.”
