LITTLE ELM — A construction worker was struck by a vehicle on the 26000 block of East University Dr. (US Hwy 380) around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5. The worker was involved in the construction of a turning lane that will accommodate access to a residential complex.
Responding agencies included the Little Elm Police and Fire Departments, the Denton County Sheriff’s Office, Denton County Constables Office, Aubrey Fire Department, and the Prosper Fire Department.
Initial reports indicated a struck pedestrian, however, officials on the scene determined that the affected individual was employed by the construction company working on the access lane.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident remained at the scene while other passing motorists stopped to render aid to the construction worker. The lifesaving attempts by civilians lasted until first responders arrived.
Emergency personnel transported the injured individual to the Medical Center of Plano where he was subsequently pronounced dead by the Collin County Medical Examiner.
As is customary in these investigative situations, the eastbound lanes of East University Drive were closed while members of the Little Elm Police Traffic Unit gathered initial evidence.
The construction worker, whose identity is being withheld while next of kin are notified, was a resident of Stephenville.
The investigation is in its initial stages and will remain open until it is completed.
