OSU senior Natalie Upton, from Prosper, Texas, won first place in the solo undergraduate division at the National Trumpet Competition contest, held on the campus of Metropolitan State University March 25-26 in Denver, Colorado.

With Upton’s win, OSU becomes the only university to win every collegiate category at the competition including undergraduate solo, graduate solo, small ensemble, and large ensemble divisions. Upton was part of the small ensemble that won this prestigious National Competition twice and started this winning tradition.

This National Competition is held every year and only 30 participants in each division are selected to compete from all across the nation.

Upton recently lost her mother. During the competition she wore her mom’s wedding shoes and was sure her mom was with her and watching her perform.

Upton has carried on the winning tradition from high school that had her selected to be part of the Texas All State Band and Texas All State Jazz Band while she was a student at Prosper High School.
