Rucker Elementary celebrated readers at this year’s Bluebonnet Reading Bash, on Jan. 26. Every year students in third through fifth grades have the option to take on the Bluebonnet Reading Challenge and read at least five of the 20 Texas Bluebonnet Nominee books. Those that rise to the challenge get to cast their vote for their favorite Bluebonnet title with the state.
Votes are collected from students from all over the state of Texas, and the book that gains the most votes is given that year’s Bluebonnet Award. Not only did the students that completed the Bluebonnet Challenge get to cast their vote for their favorite book, but they were also celebrated for their reading dedication by attending the Rucker Bluebonnet Bash.
At the celebration students got to enjoy games, activities, music and even won extra prizes. These students are now awaiting to find out if their favorite book will be the popular vote and win the Bluebonnet Award this year.
