Lady Eagles Take Little Elm Tourney

The Lady Eagle Softball team traveled to Little Elm last week and came away with 6 wins and a championship in the tournament. Prosper has an 8 game winning streak going into this week. In first round action, Prosper beat Melissa 18-1, Farmersville 2-0, and Texarkana Pleasant Grove 7-0. On Saturday in bracket play, Prosper defeated Bonham 2-1, Pampa 7-5 in 9 innings and the Little Elm in the championship game 3-2 in 9 innings.

Game 1 Prosper 18 Melissa 1

In game one, Prosper banged out 20 hits and scored 18 runs to blow away Melissa. Lissa Pappas was the winning pitcher allowing no runs on no hits, striking out 8. Freshman Reagan Yahola finished out the game allowing 1 unearned run on one hit. Leading hitters were: Emily Moore 3 for 4, scoring 4 runs and one double, Jourdan Esquenazi was 3 for 5, with 2 rbi, and a double, Lissa Pappas was 3 for 5 with 3 rbi, one double and one home run, Caitlyn Carpenter was 3 for 4 with 3 rbi and one double, Kym Wray 2 for 4 with two runs, Jordan Loving 2 for 4 with a double, Morgan Scogin was 2 for 4 with two runs, Jade Nix was 1 for 4 with 2 rbi, and Kyla Spencer was 1 for 3 with a run scored.

Game 2 Prosper 2 Farmersville 0

In game two, it was a complete opposite of game one, it was all pitching and defense. Pitcher Jourdan Esquenazi dominated Farmersville giving up no runs, 1 hit, and striking out 13. The only scoring the Lady Eagles could muster was in the fifth inning as Jordan Loving singled, Haley Riggs reached on a fielders choice, then shortstop Emily Moore came up with the big 2 rbi triple to put Prosper on the board. Pitching and defense took over from there to secure the win.

Game 3 Propser 7 Pleasant Grove 0

In the night cap, the Lady Eagles bats came back alive as they had 15 hits scoring 7 runs. Lissa Pappas was the winning pitcher allowing no runs, o hits, and striking out 11. Prosper's offense got started early as they scored 3 in the first on a single by Emily Moore, a single by Kym Wray, a rbi double by Jourdan Esquenazi, rbi single by Lissa Pappas, and then Jade Nix had another rbi single. In the third, Prosper scored 3 more runs as Esquenazi singled, Pappas doubled, and Caitlyn Carpenter hit a 3 run homer to deep left field. In the sixth, Prosper scored a single run as Moore singled, Wray singled, and Esquenazi had a rbi single.

Game 4 Prosper 2 Bonham 1.

In the first round of bracket play, the Lady Eagles faced a scrappy Bonham team as Bonham scored in the top of the first. Prosper answered in the second as Morgan Scogin singled, Kayla Wang walked, and Emily Moore delivered an rbi single to tie the score at 1-1. In the third, Prosper took the lead as Esquenazi was hit by a pitch, Jordan Loving singled, and Kyla Spencer singled to score Esquenazi.

Esquenazi was the winning pitcher allowing 1 unearned run, 2 hits, and 11 strike outs.

Game 4 Prosper 7 Pampa 5

In the semifinal game, the Lady Eagles faced a tough 4A opponent in Pampa. Pampa came out early and set the tone as they scored in the first inning. The Pampa pitcher kept proper's offense off-balanced until the sixth inning as Emily Moore singled and scored later on an error by the catcher. In the eighth inning, Pampa scored 3 runs to take a 4 -1 lead, but Prosper showed what it was made of as they scored 3 of their own. With two on, Kyla Spencer hit a hard single up the middle and the center fielder made a 3 base error as Spencer circled the bases tying the score. In the ninth, Prosper again down one, Kym Wray scored on an rbi single by Esquenazi, and then Lissa Pappas won the game on a two run walk off home run. Pappas was the winning pitcher going 8 innings allowing 4 runs, 5 hits, and 18 strike outs.

Championship Game Prosper 3 Little Elm 2 ( 9 innings)

In the championship game, pitching and defense came thru for the Lady Eagles and Texas Tech signee Brittany Talley kept the Propser offense down until the seventh inning. Down 0-1 in the seventh and 2 outs, Caitlyn Carpenter hit a line drive down the right field line that got to the corner. Carpenter circled the bases as the right fielder had trouble getting the ball back to the infield. The game was tied at 2-2 in the ninth when Lissa Pappas delivered an rbi single scoring Emily Moore. Esquenazi was the winning pitcher allowing 2 runs, one earned, 2 hits, and striking out 11.

"This was a great weekend for the team. I think the girls found out a lot about ourselves. We battled from behind several times which is good to know that your never out of a game," said Coach Max Bledsoe.

The Lady Eagles current record is 16-3-1.
