Eagles Soccer Teams Wins Tournament Championship
From Staff Reports
Last week the Eagles soccer team traveled to Saginaw for a tournament featuring some stiff 4A and 5A competition and came away with a tournament championship.
On Thursday, the Varsity played the first of what would become four games in the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw X-Town Shootout. The team started things out on a positive note by beating Ft. Worth Boswell 2-1. The team come out sluggish, but really come alive in the second half.
The next day the Eagles played Gainesville. Once again the team had trouble in the opening half, only to pull it together in the final 30 minutes. The game ended 2-0 in favor of Prosper.
Saturday morning the team again made the trek to Saginaw, this time to take on Lake Dallas. The players and coaches knew that they needed either a tie or a win to move on to the championship game. Both teams narrowly missed scoring opportunities, and it eventually ended in a 0-0 tie.
Although it was not pretty, the tie allowed the Eagles to move on to the championship game where they faced Irving MacArthur. This was a unique battle that featured a 3A team taking on a 5A school. Although the odds might have appeared to be stacked against them, the team came together for their most complete game of the season. Two first half goals and a stout defense were all the boys would need to secure the victory and the championship.
Both the JV and Varsity took on Greenville at home last Tuesday night. The JV came away with their first victory of the season by topping the Leopards 1-0. The win brings their overall record to 1-1. The Varsity followed that game with a hard-fought 1-1 tie.
After the tournament, the Varsity's overall record stands at 4-1-4.
This week the teams will travel to Decatur on Friday (JV 5:30 / Var. 7:15 P.M.).
