Event Takes Aim at Alzheimers

This Saturday a group of Prosper area ladies will host a fundraiser to help fight a disease that has become personal.
Amber George, Jessica Kieffer and Julie Walley will host a fundraiser to benefit the Alzheimer's Association.
"We are hosting this event in support of our dear friend Julie Wiley," George said. "Julie's mother, Sally Brantley is suffering from Alzheimer's. We have witnessed the effects this horrible disease can have on people. We wanted to do something for our friend to show our support. We are hoping to do our part to help in funding research for ending this epidemic."
Today, an estimated 5.3 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's. In addition, 78 million baby boomers are approaching the age of greatest risk for developing this fatal disease.
The hostesses decided to have a jewelry show to raise money.
Marcie Finney of Austin designed and developed an eco-friendly jewelry line several years ago called Seeds for Goodness, George said.
"I am crazy about the product," she said. "Not only is the jewelry stylish and beautiful but the line also provides an opportunity to give back through 'Seed Cash.'"
Each piece of jewelry comes with a story of its creation and it also comes with a small envelope of "Seed Cash" -- $2 for each piece.
The buyer is encouraged to use the "Seed Cash" in a random act of kindness- buy a stranger a cup of coffee, pay the toll for the guy behind you on the road, leave an extra tip, make a donation. It is the belief that through small acts of kindness we can change the world.
"We approached Marcie with the idea of hosting a home show benefiting Alzheimer's Association and she was thrilled to help," George said. Marcie is creating some unique pieces exclusive to this event as well as many of her "most popular" styles."
Forty percent of the sales will go to the Alzheimer's Association, which is 100 percent of the profits. In addition all "Seed Cash" -- $2 per item will be donated.
George said the community is invited to the come-and-go event.
If people are interested in placing orders they may contact Amber George- ageorge@boundlessnetwork.com; Jessica Kieffer- Jessica.kieffer@gmail.com; Julie Walley - JulieWalley@txun.net for an order form. All orders benefiting the Alzheimer's Association must be placed by Dec. 1.
The event is Saturday, Nov. 21 from 1 to 5 p.m. at 6282 Coastal Drive in McKinney 75071.
